Buying a new title...
So I have a simple question:
If I buy a new chapter and register it, can I still put the disk in to install the new chapter instead of waiting a long time to download each individual map when I get there? Keep in mind that I'm going to buy the box version. |

Don't you already have all the game data? If you've been playing, I thought that no matter what campaigns you own, you download them all.

Depends on your former status. The general answer to your question is that the Access Key gives you access to all content of the chapter you buy and the disc gives you the content without having to download. Therefore, if you already *have* the chapter downloaded on another account, a key will allow you a new account without the disc.
If you're buying GW for the first time, get the disc though. It does indeed save a lot of time. Hope that answers your question. |

Installing off a disk stops you from having to download most files. if you want EVERY file then use the -image command.

http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/-image#-image "Guild Wars client is designed to download the streaming updates in the background or when needed, in a way that will not much interfere with the user. This, however means that when a large-scale update is released, users may be required to wait while necessary files are downloaded and decompressed upon entering a new zone. With this switch, you can force the client to download and decompress all the pending updates on start up so you will not have to wait while entering a new area or mission. Image:Quest.png The client, when started with this switch, will exit immediately after it is finished with the download and decompression. Do not use this switch in your regular game shortcut. Either use this switch from a command prompt when necessary or make a new shortcut and name it something like "Update Game". "C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\gw.exe" -image Check online forums for the common current size of a gw.dat file, and if yours is much larger, you might want to delete your gw.dat file and then run gw.exe with the -image command. This will usually result in the smallest possible file size for a complete install. The download plus decompression time can take anywhere from 1 hour on a fast system with broad band internet access to several hours. This approach is NOT recommended for dial-up users." Hope I helped! |

-image is very helpful if you ever lose a hard drive due to a crash or install GW on a laptop computer or different desktop.

Files still need to be decompressed after they are downloaded, so you'll still have to wait a bit to load into new areas. -image helps with that too.
